Tips for Trade Show Promotional Giveaways

 Tradeshows are a time to garner new business and rejuvenate old business contacts. Choosing the correct trade show item is an important decision. The Promotional gift that you give out will definitely attract customers and potential clients.

I had a customer call me up one time asking for imprinted pens for his upcoming trade-show. I tried convincing him to go with an item that is more suited to his business and not as typical as a pen, to make it stand out more – with no luck. He came back to me afterwards saying that there was always a bigger crowd at the booth next to his because they gave out something much more substantial. Substantial does not have to mean spending a lot of money on a promotional item. You can give out an imprinted tote bag for less then two dollars or a fly swatter for under a dollar.

Sometimes it pays to use a good tagline and use that for your giveaway. For example: a customer of ours who sells a high end roofing system was looking to make a splash at an industry tradeshow. We suggested going with either a poncho or giving out squirt guns (a fun alternative to another stress ball!) with the “Don’t Get Soaked!“ theme. I am not taking away from Promotional pens. It is a good idea to give out a cheap giveaway like a pen. After all who doesn’t use pens, but another item that is different and unique will make your booth really a knock out.

What we recommend to customers who are purchasing Promotional items for trade shows many times, is to go with cheap promotional pens and with another more impressive item. Use the pens freely so you have something to give out. If you have a customer who seems more interested take out an imprinted mug or an embroidered cap, give it to your potential client. He will feel like a million dollars and you may have a keeper.
